Vera for APAO Members - FAQ
Is Vera really free?
Yes, Vera is 100% free for verified healthcare professionals. There’s no subscription, no paid tier, and no hidden charges. We charge healthcare systems for EHR integrations and automated clinical workflows, but the standalone version of Vera that you have access to is free.
How do APAO members sign up?
Go to verahealth.ai, choose “Sign up,” and continue with email, Google, or Apple. You’ll spend about 60 seconds verifying that you’re a clinician: name, country, occupation (select “Physician Assistant”), and specialty (Oncology / Hematology).
What is Vera, exactly?
Vera is a clinical search and guidance engine built specifically for healthcare professionals. It searches tens of millions of peer-reviewed documents and trusted guidelines, then turns what it finds into a concise, structured clinical takeaway, with a Level of Evidence on every statement so you know how much weight to give it.
How is this different from ChatGPT?
General AI tools are built to sound conversational, which is why they can “hallucinate.” Vera is engineered only for medicine and never makes things up to sound helpful. Every answer is anchored to real, peer-reviewed medical sources, and you can see the evidence behind each statement. It’s designed to support your clinical judgment, not replace it.
Do I really earn CME?
Yes. Every time you use Vera to research a clinical question, you earn 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ (for free). Vera tracks your credits automatically. When you’re ready, claim your certificate from the “CME Credits” tab on the web app (claiming is currently web-only; but you can earn on mobile too).
Can I use it on my phone?
Can I enter patient information?
Only if your account or institution is covered by a signed, active Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with Vera. If you’re not sure, assume you don’t have one: leave out names, dates of birth, and other identifiers, and ask using clinical context instead (for example, “a 62-year-old with…”). Vera still gives you a full answer.
Can Vera read pathology slides for imaging?
No. Vera can read the text in documents and photos you upload (labs, guidelines, reports) by extracting the text, and you can ask questions about it. Vera is not intended to analyze images.
What languages does Vera support?
You can ask in essentially any language and get answers in the language you prefer — useful for generating patient-facing instructions. You can even mix languages between a question and its follow-ups.
What does APAO get out of this partnership?
Free access to Vera for every member, co-branded education around the partnership, and — importantly — an aggregated and de-identified read on what the members are searching: topic trends, content demand, and emerging clinical gaps. That’s real, ongoing insight APAO can use to shape education and serve members better (no member-level data, ever, only aggregate, de-identified trends).
Who do I contact for help?
Open the Help Center from the menu inside the app, or email the Vera team. We’re glad to help APAO members get set up and get the most out of Vera.
