AAPA Endorsement Process
To establish a standardized, transparent, and compliant process for endorsing individuals in alignment with APAO mission and AAPA requirements.
1. Call for Candidates vs Candidates Just Reach Out to APAO for Endorsement
- Candidates may be identified through internal nomination or external outreach.
- All candidates must submit a pitch email expressing interest in endorsement.
2. Required Submission Materials
Each candidate must provide the following:
- Pitch Email, including:
- Alignment with APAO mission and values
- Description of current initiatives and involvement
- Oncology-specific advocacy efforts
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Confirmation of APAO Membership
- Description of current role demonstrating active work in the field
- Any organizational involvement, including leadership roles or affiliations
- Disclosure of industry relationships, including pharmaceutical involvement (if applicable)
3. Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for endorsement, candidates must:
- Demonstrate strong alignment with APAO mission and strategic priorities
- Be a current APAO member in good standing
- Show meaningful involvement in advocacy, particularly oncology-specific initiatives
- Exhibit leadership through organizational or committee participation
Preference Considerations (in multi-candidate situations):
- Active APAO committee or board members
- Demonstrated leadership within APAO or related organizations
- Depth and impact of oncology advocacy initiatives
4. Review Process
- A designated Endorsement Review Committee will evaluate all submissions.
- Applications will be assessed using standardized criteria based on the above eligibility requirements.
- The committee may request additional information or clarification as needed.
5. Candidate Presentation (Optional but Recommended)
- Selected candidates may be invited to attend a scheduled Board Meeting.
- Format:
- Brief candidate pitch (5–10 minutes)
- Followed by Board-led Q&A
6. Committee Recommendation
- The Advocacy Committee will:
- Deliberate and finalize candidate evaluations
- Provide a formal recommendation to the Board
7. Board Approval
- Final endorsement decisions will be made by the APAO Board via formal vote.
- Endorsement requires majority approval per governance standards.
8. Compliance Requirements
Prior to public endorsement:
- Finalized endorsement criteria must be publicly available (e.g., APAO website)
- The AAPA Governance Committee must be notified of the endorsement
9. Public Announcement
- Upon approval and compliance completion:
- Endorsement will be formally communicated via APAO channels
- Messaging will reflect alignment with APAO mission and rationale for endorsement
10. Documentation and Record Keeping
- All materials, evaluations, and decisions will be documented and stored for transparency and future reference.
